We bought our Merc new in 2007 for $16,800. Although we've had minor AC and heat ducting problems, the car has been running like a champ for all these years. Last January I noticed that it was running cold and had trouble starting so my mechanic replaced a thermostat and cleaned the throttle body. She runs like new consistently getting between 25 and 26 mpg on the highway no matter what the weather, from -40 f to + 105 f, it has never failed. I may never sell this puppy. On a recent 900 mile trip, we were fighting 50 mph headwinds and -25 degree temps. There were lots of new vehicles on the side of the interstate but our trusty Merc just rolled right along (getting 25 mpg). It really has been an amazing vehicle.
  • Poor mans Lincoln Town Car

I bought my 98 used in 2015 with 81000 miles for $1600. I drive it to work everyday in luxury, it's a poor mans Town Car. This car doesn't owe me a penny. One morning on my 8 mile commute to work I was hit straight on by a Toyota Tundra in my rear driver's side door. Luckily I wasn't driving my wife's Forrester because I would have been rolled over or knocked onto to the sidewalk and killed a few pedestrians. But my Mercury just jumped to the right a couple of feet and kept going. I received $1900 in insurance for that accident, so even though I'm now driving a 3 door because the driver's side rear door can't be opened, I'm still ahead of the game. I now have 99000 miles on it and it still runs smooth and I hope it lasts another 100000 miles because they don't make any cars or trucks today that run this smooth.
